BIEK (British Agency for International School Establishment) announced on the 3rd that it had signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hyundai Urban Development and Haileybury College on the 2nd for the establishment of Taean International School.
BIEK has confirmed with Hyundai that the international school to be established in Taean Enterprise City will be Haileybury College, UK, and plans to open in 2027. The school will integrate kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high schools.
The legal basis for establishing the international school in Taean was provided by the passage of the Enterprise City Development Special Act Amendment, proposed by Seong Il-jong, a member of the People Power Party (Seosan, Taean), which passed the National Assembly plenary session on January 25.
The international school will be located on a Hyundai-owned site of 15,464,894 square meters in Chungnam Taean, planned to be developed alongside a large-scale tourism and leisure-oriented enterprise city.
Haileybury College in the UK ranks among the top 15 in the world out of 5,700 IB schools (International Baccalaureate) across 160 countries.
IB education, which focuses on essay writing and discussions, is a trend currently being adopted by provincial and metropolitan education superintendents nationwide. Kim Ji-cheol, the Education Superintendent of Chungnam, is also actively promoting a 'Chungnam-style IB education'.
A representative from the BIEK Korea office (Choi Yosep, Yun Hosang) stated, "In response to the Chungnam Superintendent of Education's IB policy, we will establish an IB training course at Taean International School to enhance the IB teaching capabilities of public school teachers in the Seosan and Taean areas. We expect Taean to become a new study destination in Korea and Asia, as it will host an international school from the prestigious Haileybury College of the UK."
